Break It Down!

I’ve always wanted to lose 30 pounds. I just don’t know where to start…
Is this you? How many times have you said this to yourself? I’ve been there, more than once. Okay, more than twice.
Think about this: if you have 500 emails in your inbox to reply to, do you run away in fear? (Hm, maybe you do.) No, generally, you set a goal of replying to 20 before the lunch hour, then another 20 before the end of the day, and another 50 the next work day… Are you getting the picture, here?
The idea is to set small intermediate goals, that will help you reach your overall goal. Say you want to lose 30 pounds in the next 6 months. So, why not split that up evenly, and lose 5 pounds each month? That makes it a heck of a lot easier to hit your target.
And if it helps, you can give yourself rewards – preferably not food-oriented – for reaching each of your milestones! I like to give myself something really nice for the big goal at the end, but it’s also nice to incent ourselves for the smaller pitstops along the way. It doesn’t have to be anything expensive, either; just think of something you consider to be a simple luxury, such as a long bath, or a few hours to yourself away from the kids. Our rewards don’t have to cost a lot!
Keep on keeping track of the short-range goals, and before you know it – you will have reached the end! Just break it down into manageable chunks!
P.S. I’m back on the Vegan Tuesday bandwagon… and much more successfully, this time!
